A local Congress leader from Samaguri in Nagaon district of Assam named Fakharuddin has sparked controversy following a ‘Pro-Pakistani’ post on Facebook.
In the now-deleted post, he extended his support to the Pakistan Army. It is to be mentioned here that the Facebook account of Fakharuddin carried quite a number of alleged 'anti-national' and 'objectionable' posts.
Fakhruddin has drawn flak from within and outside the party for his open declaration of support towards the Pakistani defense forces.
The controversial incident came to light right after another Congress party worker named Hasan Ali was arrested a week ago for expressing his ‘anti-national’ sentiments on the social media platform.
It may be mentioned here that the Congress party has been dealing with problems ever since the 2019 elections, in which India’s oldest political party suffered a humiliating loss to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Narendra Modi, who was re-elected with a thumping majority. After senior party leaders decided to shift to the BJP, the party has seen a lot of ups and downs. Currently, the party is in the midst of reshuffle, with Sonia Gandhi taking back the mantle of Party President after her son Rahul Gandhi had tendered his resignation earlier.
