Assam Congress MLA Writes Bloody Note in Assembly, Denounces Threats to 'Jati, Mati, Bheti'

Guwahati, December 3, 2019:

Rupjyoti Kurmi, the Congress MLA from Mariani Constituency on Tuesday wrote a note with his blood after slitting his palm, during the ongoing Assam Assembly session as a mark of protest.

In the letter, Kurmi wrote, “Nagaon, Cachar Paper Mill, Ailabari, Hatishila Tea Estate, Namrup Fertilizers Industry, all are established in the heart of Assam. These are our identity and pride, and so it is our future as it provides employment and livelihood to the people.”

In the note, he wrote with his blood, “So, Assamese people’s future will not be played in the name of safeguarding jati, mati, and bheti.”

Later, while addressing the media persons in the assembly, Kurmi said, “Whenever I pass through Nagaon, I notice our national flag flying high, but this time it was not there. This is an indication of the threats in the state and its land.”

Calling upon all the stakeholders of the Assamese society to voice out against the threats looking over the state, the Congress MLA added that the Assamese must stand united against the threats to the land and its people.
