Talking to Inside Northeast, Debabrata Saikia said the leaders had gone to take stock of a clash in Maijan haat on the banks of the Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh district of Assam.

Saikia said, "We saw that some people ran away upon seeing us. This business is going on in broad daylight in Dibrugarh town. The logs are brought here and then sent away on trucks."

"The Government and the authorities are not at all concerned that such syndicates are operating right underneath their noses. The promises of 'achche din' have been revealed to be nothing but election jumlas", Saikia added.

Seeing the convoy of the leaders and their bodyguards, some people who were openly conducting smuggling activities on the banks of the river, immediately fled the spot.

Condemning the Assam Government for its lackadaisical approach towards these acts, Saikia stated that the banks of the Brahmaputra are being used to carry out these activities right under the noses of the Assam Government.

Condemning the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over his promises of ushering in development, Saikia alleged that this is the stark naked reality of Assam, in which rampant smuggling is going in all across the State.
