Assam: COVID-19 positive prisoner escapes from Diphu hospital

DIPHU: A COVID-19 positive prisoner undergoing treatment at the Diphu Medical College and Hospital in Karbi Anglong district escaped on Friday night, said police.

The prisoner was admitted to the COVID ward of the hospital on Thursday afternoon after he tested positive for the virus.

He was apprehended on June 12 in Matipung, near the Diphu police station, after a large amounts of drugs were seized in his possession.

The police launched a massive manhunt to apprehend the inmate.
