Assam: COVID-19 positivity rate falls to 5%, 1093 detected on July 20

The COVID-19 positivity rate has fallen to 5 percent in Assam, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on July 20^th, 2020.

The state reported 1093 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours; of which 448 were reported in Guwahati alone.

Of the total 25,092 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 7936 are active and 17,095 have been cured and discharged so far while 58 died due to the infection.

A total of 1072 patients were discharged on July 20^th, 2020. The minister claimed that the recovery rate has bounced back from a low of about 20 percent to 71 percent.

Meanwhile, the state recorded one death on Monday. Rajesh Narzary (45) of Kokrajhar in Assam died due to the infection.

Assam reported highest ever spike in COVID-19 cases on July 17^th, 2020. It reported 1218 new COVID-19 cases including 570 from Guwahati alone.

The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16^th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.

It may be mentioned, on July 16^th, 2020, a total of 184 inmates of the Guwahati Central Jail were tested positive for the lethal coronavirus.

Assam and the Northeast

Assam has the highest COVID-19 cases in the Northeast India followed by Tripura.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India recorded the more than 37148 COVID-19 cases and 587 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1155191. The death toll is now 28084, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry. Active cases in India stand at 402529 while 724578 have been cured or discharged so far.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 318695 corona cases with 175029 cured, 12030 deaths, and 131636 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 123747 cases with 104918 cured, 3663 deaths, and 15166 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 175678 positive cases with 121776 cured, 2551 deaths 51351 active cases. Gujarat with 49353 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 35678 have been cured, 2162 deaths, and 11513 active cases.
