Assam: COVID-19 positivity rate increases by 4.2% within 24 hours

The COVID-19 positivity rate in Assam has increased by 4.2 percent within 24 hours. The rate was 5 percent on July 20th, 2020, and increased to 9.2 percent on July 21st, 2020, the state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed.

A total of 1680 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the state on July 21st, 2020; of which 570 were from Guwahati alone. The minister further informed that a total of 18152 tests were conducted on Tuesday.

With these cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 26772; of which 8672 are active and 18033 have been cured and discharged so far the death toll rose to 64.

Six deaths were reported in the state on Tuesday. The deceased are Rekha Dutta (63) of Darrang, Mona Das (51) of Dibrugarh, Sister Florence (74) of Kamrup (M), Mukiv Ali (65) of Kamrup (Rural), Ramesh Ch Dekha (67) of Kamrup (Rural) and Bulin Begum (44) of Kamrup (M).

Assam reported highest ever spike in COVID-19 cases on July 17th, 2020. It reported 1218 new COVID-19 cases including 570 from Guwahati alone.

The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.

It may be mentioned, on July 16th, 2020, a total of 184 inmates of the Guwahati Central Jail were tested positive for the lethal coronavirus.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India recorded the more than 37724 COVID-19 cases and 648 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1192915. The death toll is now 28732, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry. Active cases in India stand at 411133 while 753050 have been cured or discharged so far.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 327031 corona cases with 182217 cured, 12276 deaths, and 132538 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 125096 cases with 106118 cured, 3690 deaths, and 15288 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 180643 positive cases with 126670 cured, 2626 deaths 51347 active cases. Gujarat with 50379 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 36423 have been cured, 2196 deaths, and 11760 active cases.
