Guwahati, January 7, 2020:

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has informed that the offline tickets would be refunded from January 11. Secretary, ACA Devajit Saikia said that the tickets will be refunded from the ACA counter at Barsapara satidum.

While addressing the press, Saikia said that the amount would be refunded to those who purchased the tickets offline on January 11 and 12. It may be mentioned here that this was ACA’s first address in public after it made headlines for using hair driers (hot air blowers) to dry the pitch.

The association seemed optimistic about future matches and stated that the Indian Premier League (IPL) would definitely happen and rain could not be a factor behind not hosting it.

The ACA also denied the allegations that there were holes in the pitch. When asked about the usage of “hair dryers” to dry the pitch, they clarified that those were hot air blowers and cited about Aussie players using those to dry the pitch on December 13, 2016 during India vs England match.

Saikia said that using steam irons and hairdryers were part of the BCCI’s protocol. “We have not done anything out of protocol,” he claimed, adding that when the toss is done, the pitch is handed over to umpires and match referee. “Whatever happened on Sunday was as per instruction of the umpires and match referee,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that cricket lovers on Sunday were greeted with an amusing sight after the first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka could not be held due to wet patches on the pitch. The authorities were trolled for using hairdryers, steam irons and even vacuum cleaners in a desperate bid to begin the match.

A picture of a pitch personnel attempting to dry the pitch with hairdryers while Indian team skipper Virat Kohli and opener Shikhar Dhawan’s faces wore a bemused look had gone viral and Twitteratis wasted no time in trolling the ACA and BCCI for the evidently ineffectual way of dealing with the frustrating situation.
