The Secretary to the Government of Assam, Urban Development Department, HD Sarma, has informed the Chairperson, Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB), Soma Chakraborty that illegal activities have been taking place in the department.
Sarma said that different sources had alleged the DMB of the illegal activities. He stated the list of the charges as brought by the Director of Municipal Administration, Assam and the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh while entrusting inquiry against the activities, adding that their response was not satisfactory.

In his letter to the Chairman, DMB, Sarma cited - improper maintenance of main cash book/ log books for office vehicles, irregularities in leasing out Municipal lands, conduction of tendering process for allotment of market/ parking/ hoardings etc. without board resolution, improper maintenance of the record of Urban Local Bodies’ assets and financial irregularities.
HD Sarma has asked the Chairperson of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board to appear in person in his office on November 4. The Secretary to the Government of Assam, Urban Development Department has also sought an explanation as to why Section 298 of the Assam Municipal Act, 1956, should not be invoked.

However, the Chairperson has denied all the allegations put forward by HD Sarma. She said that she would appear before the Secretary to respond to the allegations.
