Assam to discontinue COVID testing at railway stations, land routes, airports from March 1

In view of the rapidly declining cases of COVID-19 in Assam, the state government has done away with mandatory testings

GUWAHATI: In view of the rapidly declining cases of COVID-19 in Assam, the state government has done away with mandatory COVID-19 testings at railway stations, land routes, as well as airports from March 1 onwards.

 

"In view of rapidly declining cases of #COVID19 & given that vaccination is in full swing, GoA has decided to discontinue mandatory testing at rly stations, land routes & airports from March 1, 2021. It's expected however that people would adhere to #Covid appropriate behaviour," Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet earlier today.

After the COVID-19 landed on Assam's shores, people entering the state were required to undergo mandatory testings upon entering the state.

 

Covid vaccination on Tuesday crossed one lakh beneficiaries and there were no serious cases of adverse effects following immunization (AEFI).

 

It needs mention here that Assam's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,17,229 as 19 more people tested positive for the infection on Monday, while one new fatality pushed the death toll to 1,085.
