GUWAHATI": The Election Commission of India (ECI) has written to Assam's Chief Election Officer (CEO) ordering re-polling in 4 polling stations spread across 3 constituencies in Assam.

Re-polling will be held in the Indira M.V School (Right) in Ratabari, Madhya Dhanehari L.P. School in Sonai, and Khothlir L.P. School and Mualdam L.P School in Haflong (ST) constituencies on April 20 from 7 am to 6 pm.

The Election Commission has ordered repolling at polling station number 149 of Ratabari seat in Assam following the row surrounding an EVM being found in a car that belongs to Patharkandi BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul.

The Election Commission has suspended four officers responsible for the transportation of EVMs at the Assam constituency. A further inquiry has been ordered.

"I am directed to refer to the subject cited and to state that on the basis of reports submitted, and after taking all material circumstances into account, the Commission hereby declares under Sub-Section (2) (a) of Section 58 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 that the poll was taken on 1st April 2021 (Thursday) at 4 (Four) polling stations," Secretary Ajay Kumar Verma expressed in a communique.

"Please ensure that wide publicity of fresh poll is given by beat of drums in the polling areas of these polling stations and political parties and contesting candidates be informed in writing," the EC added.
