The Oil India Limited has left no stone unturned to douse the Baghjan oil well blast fire. The OIL has placed the spacer spool successfully at the blast site early this morning, an OIL statement stated.
“Connection of this new Spacer Spool with the Capping BOP Stack is in progress, following which, the BOP Stack shall be pressure tested again. Rigging up of the repaired Bull Lines with the Athey Wagon is also in progress at site, following which, the Athey Wagon will be load tested. All safety precautions are being maintained and are in place. All efforts are being taken to control the well at the earliest,” the statement reads further.
OIL has also surveyed a total of 2756 number of families for assessment of damage for compensation till August 11th, 2020 in Doomdooma and Tinsukia Circle put together.

“Oil & Gas Production still continues to be affected due to forceful closure of few Oil & Gas wells connected to Baghjan EPS. Drilling and workover operation also continue to be affected at few of the locations due to forceful closure of operation,” OIL stated.
OIL also stated that a total of 26280 Metric Tonnes of Crude Oil and 63.04 Million Metric St. Cubic Meter of Natural Gas have been lost respectively as a result of protests/blockades/ bandhs staged in and around Baghjan area since 27th May, 2020 due to the Blowout.
On 27th May, an Oil India Limited gas well, the BGR 5, faced a blowout which spewed hydrocarbons across a huge radius raining the adjoining villages in Baghjan with associated condensate. Then on 9th June, the blowout caught fire when well control experts from M/S Alert Disaster Control had arrived at the scene to begin work on capping the well. The fire is still raging as this report is being typed out. Villagers were evacuated immediately and sheltered in nearby schools which facilitated as relief centres. Two persons, both OIL employees, have lost their lives due to the blowout.
