GUWAHATI: Five seats of the total six of the Assam by-elections have been finalised between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).
BJP will contest from four constituencies.
The saffron party will file candidates in the constituencies of Majuli, Thowra, Moriani, and Bhabanipur.
Meanwhile, UPPL, the BJP's coalition partner, will file a candidate in Tamulpur.
However, the two parties are in talks about who will contest for the seat of Gossaigaon.
The Gossaigaon seat fell vacant after Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA Majendra Narzary died due to post-COVID-19 complications in May this year.
Though no formal announcement has been made, it is almost certain that Sushanta Borgohain from Thowra, Rupjyoti Kurmi from Mariani, and Phanidhar Talukdar from Bhabanipur would be given the BJP nomination.
