Guwahati, January 25, 2020:

According to our Inside Northeast sources, Assam’s Dr. KK Sarma, also called the ‘Elephant Doctor’ and noted Historian Jogen Phukan have been selected for the prestigious Padmashri Award for their contributions in their respective fields.

Writer Yese Dorji Thongchi from Arunachal Pradesh will also be honored with the Padmashri. is an Assamese writer based in Arunachal Pradesh. The former deputy commissioner’s first literary creation is a poem called Junbai.

KK Sarma, who is an elephant veterinarian and Professor of Surgery and Radiology at the College of Veterinary Science, Assam, has been serving without taking a weekend off for ten long years. He is known for his relentless efforts for his work on the wellbeing of elephants in the state.
