Guwahati, December 8, 2019:

The state of Assam is echoing with the slogans of “Withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Bill”. The northeastern state witnessed an uproar a day ahead of the Citizenship Bill’s final call on Monday.

Several parts of Assam saw widespread protests by the indigenous people demanding withdrawal of CAB. In Sivsagar’s Demow, members of the Tai Ahom Body and its youth arm staged a demonstration chanting slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the current Assam government. They burned the effigies of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance & Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora.
