Kokrajhar: Fed up with waiting for the BTAD administration to construct a bridge or road along the Gaurang River at Kamalachara in Kokrajhar district (Assam) to facilitate movement, villagers took matters into their own hands. Today, the villagers of this remote Assam village began work on a bamboo bridge that they hope will bring an end to their woes.
Talking to reporters, the Assam villagers expressed dismay at the prevailing situation and slammed those in power have lost their patience to belief on government and BTAD administration as they are not getting good response from concern authorities to construct bridge or road communication along the Gaurang River.
Avoiding to rely upon the government,local MLA,ministers,BTAD administration, villagers from several ten villages including Indira Colony,Mokrapara,Kamalachara, Sesapani, Bhotgaon come forward to render self services for constructing bamboo bridge for making people's welfare in the area.

The villagers have lamented that the government, BTAD administration, as well as MLAs and Ministers have not initiated any steps to construct roads or bridges over the Gaurang River.
Although they have been urging the state government and BTAD administration for several years to construct roads or bridges, no steps have been taken in that regard, they complained. They said that they have seeking financial supporters besides donating bamboos for the social venture undertaken by the community.
"We are now beginning to feel helpless while leading our daily lives, so we have decided to render self-services for constructing road or bamboo bridge along the Gaurang River," one of the villagers told us.
