GUWAHATI: At a time when the Bodo language is becoming more and more mainstream, Assam Governor's summons for the ensuing Assembly on July 12 certified it as a bonafide language that will no doubt continue to figure prominently in Assam's highest echelons of power.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of the article 174 of the Constitution of India, as amended up-to-date, I, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam, hereby summon the Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly to meet at 9:30 AM on Monday, the 12th July 2021 at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur," the Governor wrote in a message intimating about the first budget session.

This time, however, these words were also written in the Bodo language in the communique. Other languages that were used are Assamese and English.

This development comes days after the state government has okayed Bodo to be spoken on the floor of the hallowed Assembly.

The state government recently recognized the Bodo language as an associate official language of Assam while the official state language is 'Axomiya' or the Assamese dialect.

Following an appeal from the past regime to send a "positive message to the indigenous people" the opposition dropped all of their amendments, and The Assam Official Languages (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was approved unanimously on the last day of the three-day winter session in December 2020.

It needs mention here that Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has called for the budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on July 12.

This would be the first budget session of the newly formed Assam government headed by Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief minister.

Governor Mukhi has asked for the session to commence from 9:30 am on July 12 at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur.
