Umrangso, June 10, 2019:

Assam Police on Sunday nabbed five leaders of the banned militant outfit Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) at Umrangso in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

The leaders of the militant group were apprehended from a lodge after the police received a tip-off about their presence there.

According to sources, police launched the operation after receiving input that the leaders of the KPLT outfit were holed up at Umrangso.

The apprehended KPLT militants have been identified as Rongbin Ejang alias Menjing Thransa, self-styled chairman, Hatsing Phongso, Mathew Rongpi, Jiten Kro and Baster Hanse.

Police are now investigating the reason behind these KPLT leaders coming out of their hideout inside dense jungles and camping in Umrangso.

According to police sources, the KPLT leaders were plotting a bomb explosion when their plans were foiled by the authorities.

According to sources, more information about the operation will be revealed soon by the authorities.

It may be mentioned that the KPLT was formed with an objective of carving an Autonomous Karbi State (AKS) out of Assam. The KPLT pledged to fight until the AKS is formed. Significantly, Jing Hanse, on the outfit's Foundation had declared that his party would continue subversive activities if their demands were not met.

More details are awaited.
