ASSAM: FLOOD HITS IN THE STATE

Due to consistent heavy rainfall in many parts of assam, 668 number of villages in seven number of district such as Hojai, Cachar, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong(East) and West Karbi Anglong of Assam have been affected on third day of the first wave of flood.

A total of 3,86,570 number of population have been affected in the Flood fully damaging 325 houses. Dhansiri at Numaligarh (Golaghat), Jia Bharali at N.T. Rd Xing (Sonitpur) Barak at A.P. Ghat (Cachar) and Badarpurghat (Karimganj), Katakhal at Matizuri (Hailakandi), Kushiyara at Karimganj (Karimganj) are flowing above danger level. Rainfall triggered Landslide occurred at Mahur, Harangajao, Maibang, Dima Hasao in which 136 houses were fully damaged and in Birubari, Nizarapara, Kamrup Metro where no casualty has been reported so far.

NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and Assam Rifles teams have been engaged into service in the flood affected areas for search and rescue operation. 471 Person have been rescued in from Karimganj district, Hailakandi, Cachar and Golaghat by them. 162 number of Camps are operational in Karimganj, Hailakandi, Karbi Anglong (East) and Golaghat with 67,175 inmates.

There has been time to time slow release of water from the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project; however the situation is under control. The District Administration of the downstream districts is in close coordination with NEEPCO and is kept on High alert.
