6 July 2018:
A foreigners tribunal in Chirang district ordered the release of a declared foreigner Anna Bala Rai after her husband submitted some documents proving her Indian citizenship. After her bail she went to her residence of Pub Ankorbari from Kokrajhar jail.
Subsequently, police arrested her on June 23 from her residence and she was remanded in the detention centre attached to the district jail in Kokrajhar.
All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union along with AKRSU and allied groups took up the matter and staged a three-hour demonstration at the district headquarters of Chirang, on Wednesday for Anna's release.
“The indigenous people of Assam have their own identity with proper documents and harassing them to be a foreigner should be stopped immediately” said AKRSU general secretary Gokul Barman.
“The BJP Government after coming into power forget all their promises and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal failed to protect the indigenous people of Assam and if it goes on then Assam will soon be deprived of their identity” said AKRSU president Hiteswar Barman.
Anna Bala Rai’s Counsel told that she has to come to pay an amount of 20,000 rupees for her bail and appear in the court on 6th July.
