Veteran Congressman and three-time former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, issued a stern warning at rival party BJP over the contentious issue of the Citizenship Amendment Act and demanded 'restrictions' to discourage foreigners from settling in Assam.
Gogoi also said that the solution is to enact a Bill that will prohibit the foreigners arrived after 1971 from buying "When we will restrict them, they will stop coming themselves."
Gogoi further demanded the list of people who will get provisions . "Even the ILP is not securing us -- in Meghalaya, for instance, outsiders are the ones ruling the roost".

Urging the BJP party to stop its "act" Gogoi said that the Bill is being opposed in every corner of the Northeast, despite ILP and 6th Schedule areas receiving exemption from the Act. "If the exempted areas are protesting like this, imagine what will happen to us", cautioned Gogoi.
Accusing the BJP party of inciting communal tensions. "This is not a good sign, the minorities and majority has to stick together.
Meanwhile, Gogoi, who has been staunchly opposed to the imposition of the Citizenship Amendment Act, will now fight a case in the Supreme Court as a lawyer to overthrow the Bill. Congress leader P Chidambaram, recently released from jail, will join the Gogoi in the proceedings.
The former CM also said that the BJP has been ruined in the wake of the fallout over the C(A)A issue, and expressed confidence that the Congress party will win the next elections in the State by a landslide.
