ASSAM GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCE SEVERAL SCHEMES FOR TEA GARDEN WORKERS

Guwahati, October 24, 2018:

The Assam government has announced several schemes for the tea garden workers.

State Tea Tribes’ Welfare minister Pallab Lochan Das today announced that one hundred distinguished High School Leaving Certificate first division holders will be given scooty.

The state government will also organise ‘Dhan-Mela’ in tea gardens. Each labour of tea gardens will get a sum of Rs 2,500 as old-age pension. Mobile phones will also be provided to the Sardars

Rs 25,000 financial assistance will be provided for the self-help groups of Tea gardens.

It may be mentioned that the Assam government had earlier launched wage compensation scheme for pregnant women in tea garden districts. Under the scheme, each pregnant woman in tea gardens will get a sum of Rs 12,000 so that she can take better care of herself and her unborn baby without compromising the livelihood of her family.

“These are nothing but a tactic adopted by the Bharatiya Janata Party to woo tea garden voters before the panchayat and 2019 general elections,” said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee.
