The State government has recently decided to convert a few madrassas into secondary schools while closing down the others.
State education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the education department to prepare a cabinet memorandum for executing the decision taken to close down the government-run madrassas.
The education department has accordingly sought details from the districts about the number of madrassas and sanctioned teachers along with the number of positions lying vacant.
