GUWAHATI: The Assam government today extended the night curfew in view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases in the state by six more days till May 7.
The existing night curfew from 8 pm to 5 am, imposed since April 27, will end on May 1.
In an order in this regard, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that the statewide night curfew will remain in force till May 7.

In the order, Assam chief secretary Jishnu Baruah stated that the decision to clamp night curfew has been taken following rapid increase in the number of active COVID-19 cases and for the “well-being and safety of the people”.
Through an earlier order the state government has made it mandatory for all shops and markets to close by 6 pm every day to prevent gathering of people at market places in the evening, thus preventing spread of the coronavirus.
The state today reported 26 more COVID-19 deaths taking the death toll to 1,307, while 3,197 new cases pushed the tally to 2,53,126.
