Assam Govt reduces home quarantine period to 7 days, Rs 2000 benefit only to BPL families

The Assam Government on July 24th, 2020 has decided to reduce the home quarantine period for COVID-19 patients even as the numbers of positive cases are rising in the state.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after discharge from hospital, a COVID patient will be required to stay in home quarantine for 7 days instead of 14 days.

Additionally, the state government will provide essential items worth Rs 2000 to the families that are BPL, elderly people, ailing and to Divyangjan, he clarified.

There was a confusion regarding supply of essential items to the people staying under home quarantine in the state.

Assam: COVID-19 scenery

The COVID-19 positivity rate has inched to 6.98 percent on July 24th, 2020 which was 5.25 percent on July 23rd, 2020.

A total of 1130 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam on Friday; of which 417 were in Guwahati and 104 in Cachar. A total of 16178 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours while over 19,000 tests were conducted on July 23rd, 2020.

Of the total 29,921 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 8081 are still active and 21,761 have recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, the death toll has increased to 76 with six new fatalities reported in the state so far. The new deceased are Abdul Halim Laskar (75) and Alekjan Bibi (55) from Karimganj; Parvati Das (85), Prafulla Sharma (60) and Saroj Kr Majumdar (78) from Kamrup Metro and Sarafuddin Ahmed (54) from Nalbari

The state has conducted a total of 7,39,465 tests for COVID-19 so far; of which 59621 in the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), 53761 in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and 61266 in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The COVID-19 positivity rate in Assam was 5 percent on July 20th, 2020 and increased to 9.2 percent on July 21st, 2020, the state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed.

The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.
