Assam Govt reduces quarantine period for returnees to 10 days

The Assam government has decided to reduce the quarantine period for passengers arriving from outside the state from 14 days to a total period of 10 days, inclusive of days spent in institutional/ hotel quarantine as well as home quarantine.

“In view of new developments, it is hereby decided that period of quarantine for passengers arriving from outside the State is reduced from 14 days to a total period of 10 days, inclusive of days spent in institutional/ hotel quarantine as well as home quarantine. For instance, if a passenger spends initial 2 days in a hotel / institutional quarantine, then he/ she shall have to spend the remaining duration of 8 days in home quarantine. Similarly, if any passenger directly proceeds for home quarantine, the he/ she shall spend 10 days in home quarantine. However, if the RT-PCR test result of such passengers turns out positive in the interim, steps will be taken as per standard procedure,” the order signed by Samir K Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Health and Family Welfare department stated.

The Assam Government on July 24th, 2020 has decided to reduce the home quarantine period for COVID-19 patients even as the numbers of positive cases are rising in the state.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after discharge from hospital, a COVID patient will be required to stay in home quarantine for 7 days instead of 14 days.

Additionally, the state government will provide essential items worth Rs 2000 to the families that are BPL, elderly people, ailing and to Divyangjan, he clarified.

Assam COVID-19 situation is slowly but steadily improving with 5.9 percent positivity rate and 76.2 percent recovery rate as on July 28^th, 2020.

Out of 22,876 tests were conducted, only 1371 were detected positive for the lethal virus in the last 24 hours, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated. Of the 1371 confirmed cases, 295 were reported from Kamrup (Metro) district and 221 from Kamrup (Rural) district. Meanwhile, A total of 1216 patients were discharged on Tuesday.

With these the total number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 34,947; of which 8,238 are still active and 26618 have recovered.

Meanwhile, the death toll has gone up to 88 with two more COVID-19 deaths. The deceased are Dulu Rani Sarkar (70) and Hemanta Buragohain (50). They both were from Kamrup (Metro) and admitted at GMCH, Guwahati.

The COVID-19 positivity rate was 6.98 percent on July 24^th, 2020 which was 5.25 percent on July 23^rd, 2020, 5 percent on July 20^th, 2020 and 9.2 percent on July 21^st, 2020.

The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16^th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.
