Assam: Guwahati Central Jail inmate tests positive, KMSS raises concerns

In Guwahati Central Jail, Assam Jintu Nath has been tested positive from Covid19. The infected inmate had no travel history Jintu Nath. Following the incident, the concerned people are worried about the situation.

The matter took an even bigger turn as in the same jail Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi, other leaders include Dharjya Konwar, Kuwar, Bittu Sonowal is kept under. Dharjya Konwar, Kuwar has already stated that social distancing norms were not been followed in jail. "I request HBS to check whether social distancing is maintained in prison", said Konwar. He also stated that more than 40-50 people are staying and bunking together.

As per reports, the inmates were taken to the Kahilipara lab for a covid19 examination. Even then, there was a violation of social distancing norms, and not even a single mask was worn by the captives. As such KMSS is agitated after the incident. Citizens closed to the matter have also raised the issue of community spread.

Taking stock of the situation, KMSS Joint Secretary Mukut Deka said, "we are worried about the safety of the inmates as no social distance and health measures not taken. There are open toilets and no personal use of latrines. He also raised other issues, "the food line is not maintaining proper distance and no mask and sanitisers have been given in the prison".

He suggested that 2/3 of the total inmates should be quarantined outside the jail as there's no facility inside. The KMSS also requested that the SWAB test should be undertaken for all 1117 inmates. So far, the Central Jail has been declared a containment zone.
