17 July 2018:
Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath has directed Pravin Togadia, president of AntaRastriya Hindu Parishad, to abstain from attending any event, organised by his AntaRastriya Hindu Parishad, Assam Pradesh, and making any speech therein, or making any inflammatory speech at any other places or through any media in any part of Guwahati Police Commissionerate without appropriate permission from the office of the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati.
In a statement, Nath said the order would remain in force in the territorial area of Guwahati Police Commissionerate for two months with effect from July 17. He said if Togadia was aggrieved by the order, he could appear before the office of the Police Commissioner for filling written objection, if any, for cancellation or modification of the order.
Nath said the order was issued as Togadia was planning to visit the city from July 17-20 and address some meetings and a press conference and likely to make “inflammatory speeches if allowed to address the events…thereby disturbing public peace and order in Guwahati and other areas of the Commissionerate in a serious manner”.
Another reason behind issuance of the order was the prevailing situation that arose out of the proposed publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) complete draft on July 30.
