Hailakandi district police exhumed a decomposed body after it was buried on being murdered and arrested the accused on Friday.

On receipt of the information, the Incharge of Kalacherra Outpost rushed to the place of occurrence and started the inquiry into the incident. During thorough grilling of the elder brother of Lakhi Narayan Rabidas, Himachal Rabidas, aged 40, a carpenter by profession, finally confessed that he had murdered his younger brother on the night of May 11 after a heated altercation over an issue and buried his body at the backyard of his house.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Hq), Hailakandi accompanied by Executive Magistrate rushed to the site and disinterred the dead body from an abandoned kutcha latrine pit located at the backyard of the house of the accused. Subsequently, the weapon of murder, a 'dao' (machete) used by the accused to bludgeon his brother to death was recovered by the police.
An inquest over the dead body was conducted by the Executive Magistrate and the decomposed body was sent to the SK Roy Civil Hospital for autopsy. Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath informed that a case number 211/2020 under Sections 302/201 IPC has been registered against the accused at the Lala Police Station. Investigation is on, he added.
