Guwahati, June 11, 2019:

The District Commissioner of Kamrup (M) Biswajit Pegu has passed an order banning the sale of liquor in Guwahati's popular hotel 'Shoolin Grand'. The suspension order comes at the recommendation of Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya.

It may be mentioned that this order was passed after employees of the hotel roughed up members of a family at the hotel's rooftop restaurant, 'De Vue'. The whole incident was recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the hotel.

The DC's order stated that liquor is only meant to be served to boardees, and thus, the serving of liquor to the customers at the restaurant was illegal.

Moreover, the DC stated that the hotel's response to the show cause notice issued by the administration was "unsatisfactory"

The serving of liquor has been suspended at Shoolin Grand until 'further notice' by the DC.

It may be mentioned that a family was allegedly attacked by the employees of a Guwahati-based restaurant, Da Vue, on Sunday night, June 2. The incident took place at around 9 PM at Da Vue. The fight allegedly broke out because they were served food more than two hours after placing the order.
