Assam | Huge Quantity of Cannabis Seized

Guwahati, June 1, 2019:

Assam Police authorities launched an operation on Friday on the basis of secret information they had received. During the operation, a truck bearing registration number UP65CT 6995 was detained at Chagolia Check point at Dhubri district of Assam late at night on Friday. After conducting a search, the authorities recovered a total of 570 kgs of suspected cannabis kept in 95 packets and apprehended two persons.

The apprehendees have been identified as Sunil Yadav who is a resident of Thane, Maharashtra, and Rudal Chouhan, a resident of Yakubpur in Uttar Pradesh.

A lawful procedure has been followed and a case has been registered and the matter is being investigated into by the personnel of Assam Police.

It may be mentioned that recently, the police in Dhemaji district of Assam had nabbed seven drug peddlers, including a minor, and seized about 50 grams of heroin from their possession during a search operation conducted along the Assam-Arunachal boundary area on Tuesday.

Following a tip-off, the police team, led by Jonai SDPO Rituraj Doley, conducted raids at two grocery shops in Leku Jelom model village in Jonai subdivision of Assam, near the interstate boundary in East Siang district, and recovered the drug along with some packets of other narcotics.
