The Kokrajhar police detained four persons including the husband over the alleged brutal murder of a woman in Kokrajhar district in Western Assam.

The accused have been identified as Satiram Basumatary (husband), Gaidang Mushahary, Butonga Basumatary, and Rabin Basumatary.

All the accused had allegedly beheaded the woman, identified as Bimola Basumatary alias Gaide Basumatary, located at around 15-kilometer distance from the Kokrajhar town on June 28th, 2020. The body was recovered by police at Sutarpara near Titaguri under the jurisdiction of Kokrajhar Police Station.

After getting the cognizance of the incident, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. After the preliminary investigation, police nabbed four persons on charges of being allegedly involved in the murder.

Speaking to the media persons, district Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar Rakesh Roushan said, “A strict investigation is going on into murder case.” Later, the police sent the body for post mortem examination.

In another incident, one Bikas Limbu of Limbupara village under Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar district was murdered by his domestic helper Birsa Lakra on June 26th, 2020 evening. The body of the victim was recovered on the next day.

As per information, Birsa attacked Bikash with a sharp weapon while they were on the way to river Longa for fishing.  Later, the accused surrendered himself at Serfanguri police station on the same night with the weapon with which he killed Bikash and the victim’s body was recovered the next day.
