Sivsagar, November 16, 2019:

Biraj Hazarika, a 32-year-old CISF jawan from Assam has decided to set up the state's first-ever food and clothes bank in his home district of Sivsagar.

What is even more impressive is that the jawan is all set to start the food and clothes bank with his own money.

Hazarika, an ONGC employee, is going to kickstart the initiative in the heart of Nazira town on Sunday. Hailing from Dalgaon in Darrang district, Hazarika had been donating food and clothes to the needy wherever he has served so far.

After serving his country, the CISF jawan came back to Assam in March, 2018, and is now close to establishing a helping platform for the poor and needy in the area. Hazarika's efforts have also earned him the moniker of 'Gorobor bandhi' (friend of the poor).

The bank will be called "Roti aaru Kapur (clothes) Bank" with the punch line "Gareeb ka Dost" (friend of the poor), the place will have nonperishable food items like rice, lentils, oil, salt, sugar and clothes. The bank will have a permanent office in Nazira, and will have a vehicle to transport charity items to neighboring villages.

Hazarika's charitable efforts have earned him the love and admiration of the locals in the area, and he believes with ample support, he can open similar banks in all the districts of the state of Assam.
