MORIGAON: Jibon Chandra Konwar was Wednesday sworn in as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Tiwa Autonomous Council, the elections to which were held last month. Tulshi Bordoloi was sworn in as his Deputy.
Jibon Chandra Konwar was administered the oath of office by the Central Assam Division Commissioner Moloy Bora at the Morigaon Pobitora Hat Hall.
Ten other EMs -- Khagen Bordoloi, Madan Deori, Binoy Konwar, Binita Daimari, Mihiram Bordoloi, Pranab Jyoti Mosrong, Suroj Konwar, Biswajyoti Pator, Jaba Engti and Paresh Ronghang -- were also administered the oath of office.
Assam Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika, and other members and dignitaries grace the occasion with their presence.
The BJP, it needs mention here, registered a thumping victory in the election, winning 33 seats out of 36 seats.
While allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won 2 Seats, the Congress party could wrest only a Single Seat.
The TAC poll for 36 council constituencies in parts of Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (M) districts was held at 410 polling stations on December 17, 2020, while the counting of the vote was held on December 19, 2020.
The saffron brigade's truimph in the TAC polls is being seen as an encouraging sign, as it had got only three seats in the last election.
Notably, former TAC chief Paban Manta is now a BJP member who won from the Damal constituency. The CEM before Manta, Ramakanta Deuri, is now a BJP MLA.
It needs mention here that the Council comprises part of Morigaon, Nagaon, Kamrup (M), AND Hojai districts.
