In the brutal attack on the journalist Rajen Deka at Mukalmuwa in Nalbari district of Assam, allegations have been made regarding of involvement of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist Ripul Deka alias Baba’s supporters.
Rajen Deka, a correspondent with Assamese daily Dainik Asom from Mukalmuwa was attacked with sharp weapons at Tegheriattari village of Mukalmuwa in West Nalbari on Thursday night. Later, he was rushed to a local hospital at Mukalmuwa and shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
Earlier this attack, a local youth identified as Jintu Medhi uploaded a post on social media threatening to kill the journalist. In connection to this, an FIR was lodged against Jintu Medhi and Ripul Deka.
As per reports, the incident took place out after the publication of Deka’s report in Dainik Asom alleging that BJP workers are indulged in rigging in a polling booth at Mukalmuwa during the third phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 23.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also condemned the attack and asked DGP Kuladhar Saikia to investigate the matter and nab the culprits involved in it.
