The Central Organising Secretary of Lachit Sena, Sringkhal Chaliha, has been picked up by Dibrugarh police from Barbaruah area of the Assam district, after addressing a gathering at a 'Citizenship Amendment Act' protest.
He had addressed a protest rally against CAA organised at Barbaruah Puja field today, after which the Dibrugarh Police authorities promptly arrested him.

Somewhat remarkably, Chaliha had predicted his arrest while addressing the protesters earlier today. Chaliha had said, "Akhil Gogoi has been jailed....Jiten Dutta has been jailed...Amitabh Goswami has been arrested. I have received intel that I will also be arrested soon. But, even if I am jailed and shot, the protests have to go on."
Police picked Chaliha up after the rally, and he has now been sent to Guwahati, reports said. As per police, he has been sought by Kamrup police in connection with some case, details of which yet to be known. Meanwhile, protesters have gheraod Barbaruah police station, demanding the release of the popular local leader.

It may be mentioned here that Chaliha's arrest was preceded by the arrest of the firebrand peasant leader, Akhil Gogoi.
Akhil has been booked under the Unlawful Assembly Prevention Act (UAPA) by the NIA, allegedly for “waging a war against the nation”.
Gogoi’s custody amid the protests has been observed as a major setback to the indigenous organisations of Assam as Gogoi has been playing an active role in the statewide protests over the C(A)A.
