Assam man found in possession of dead hornbill parts; arrested

BAKSA: Casque of a hornbill bird has been recovered along the Indo-Bhutan border near Tamulpur subdivision of Assam's Baksa district.
The arrested accused has been identified as Dewan Soren (28), a resident of Dongargaon village of Tamulpur.
Based on a tip-off, troops of the 24th Battalion of SSB, Rangiya, along with the forest officials of Kumarikata conducted an operation on Saturday and caught the hunter red-handed.

Police recovered bows and organs of various animals from the accused's possession.
Hornbills (Bucerotidae) are a tropical and subtropical bird family found in Africa, Asia, and Melanesia.
They have a long, down-curved head that is typically brightly colored and sometimes has a casque (made of the same material as human nails) on the upper mandible.
Illegal logging and poaching for its precious casque are driving the hornbill to extinction.
