The All Assam Students’ Union alongwith 28th various organisations representing various ethnic and tribal communities of the State came forward for a mass protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, today in Assam Engineering Institute field at Chandmari . The protesters jointly lodged a sit in eleven hour mass hunger strike in the city demanding for the dismal of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.

The advisor of All Assam Students’s Union (AASU), Samujjal Bhattarcharya said that the hunger strike is done to clearly put their stand against the dismissal of the Citizenship Amendment Bill and they will not accept this bill at any cost which was put by the JPC members.

He also said that the Chief Minister of Assam should take his stand on the Citizenship Amendment Bill rather being a puppet of the BJP government. Moreover the Assam government should not take much time to take the decision as the Meghalaya government clearly opposed the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill.

He also stated that the Assam Government is fooling around the people of Assam as they are waiting for the drafting of NRC which is to be published on 30th June and that clearly shows the dirty politics of BJP government.

Lastly he demanded a time bound action plan to implement the Assam accord signed with the centre, which clearly says that all illegal immigrants who entered Assam after 1971 must be detected and deported and also the Modi government must undertake urgent measures to seal the Indo- Bangladesh border.
