Barpeta: In an embarrassing incident, a bridge in Janiya in Lower Assam's Barpeta district is already starting to exhibit cracks. Somewhat bizarrely, this bridge is yet to be officially opened for the public.

Scores of vehicles pass over this 802 metre long bridge and the formation of cracks on its surface is starting to worry the locals.

The foundation stone for this ambitious bridge was laid all the way back in 2009 by then Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Minister Ajanta Neog.

In 2016, the construction work on this bridge was completed. Locals of the area must have heaved a sigh of relief at this great stucture sympolizing improving connectivity, but it seems like their joy has been short-lived.

Although some locals claimed that the bridge had been made using sub-standard materials, nobody took their warning seriously.
