The 'Sanmilita Sangram Parishad' organised a massive protest against the Centre’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Assam’s Karbi Anglong.
On Monday, the Sanmilita Sangram Parishad, a group of 43 social and civil organisations, held a mass protest rally in Bokoliaghat of Karbi Anglong district.

It may be mentioned here that Karbi Anglong has been exempted from the purview of the CAA. Despite being a Sixth Schedule area, the protest witnessed huge support of the people.

The aim of the Parishad is to bring together the people of the Northeast region and provide a common platform, through which they can stand against the CAA and protect the identity, culture and rights of the indigenous people.

The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and organisations from Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland have also participated in the mammoth demonstration in Karbi Anglong. Tripura People’s Front and Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum were among the ones who supported the Sanmilita Sangram Parishad’s move.
The Convener of the newly formed Parishad, Monjit Mahanta and General Secretary and Adviser, Anup Chetia were also present during the Karbi Anglong.
