In the latest twist in the saga of the Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was forced to make a 5 km journey by chopper in a bid to evade the anti-CAA brigade in Sonitpur district.
Biswa Sarma, who was in Tezpur to pay his last respects to recently-deceased Rangapara MLA, Rajen Borthakur, was made to make the journey from Tezpur Airport to Borthakur's residence in Goroimari by helicopter, after security decided that it was not safe for him to go by car.
Meanwhile, members of the local unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) were waiting for the Minister with black flags, which have become a common sight wherever BJP leaders go.

Members of the AASU along with locals were waiting at the National Highway 15 near Ghoramari area, and although their primary target, Biswa Sarma, escaped in his chopper, the anti-CAA brigade waved black flags at a few BJP MLAs passing by.
Similarly, protesters also waved black flags at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Rangia. Sonowal was reportedly headed to Tulsibari, when protesters confronted the convoy at Rangia Tiniali at a memorial site constructed for martyrs, by the members of the AASU.
It may be mentioned that the passage of the CAA has sparked nationwide protests, with Assam being the starting point. Protests against the Bill-turned-Act continue in Assam, even as the Government continues its crackdown against the leaders of the anti-CAA brigade.
