A determined-Hazarika had launched the operation to tranquilize the killer jumbo earlier today in the morning. It may be mentioned here that Laden had earlier killed 5 people in a single night in Goalpara district. After the forest officials launched an operation to track him down, Laden was seen wandering in the Satabari Reserve Forest.

At least 57 people have been killed in elephant attacks this year in Assam, according to data submitted in the Parliament in July.

In Assam, 86 people were killed in elephant attacks in 2018-19, 83 died in 2017-18 and 136 people were killed in 2016-17.

It may be mentioned that since 2006, elephants which sneak into human habitats and terrorize the locals have been given the moniker 'Laden', after the dreaded Al-Qaeda leader who is credited with the 9/11 terror attack on US soil. In the following years, every conflict-ridden district had its own 'Laden'.
