GUWAHATI: Giving a full stop to all the speculations, two time Congress legislator from Thowra constituency Sushanta Borgohain, has resigned from the primary membership of the party today.

This came into effect after Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) issued a show-cause notice to Borgohain on Wednesday to make his political future clear by July 31 following BJP state unit president Bhabhseh Kalita's claim.

Borgohain is most likely to join the saffron party on August 1 itself, according to reports.

This is the second blow to the party after its four-time Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has joined the saffron party on July 2.

Before going to polls, BJP had welcomed senior Congress leader and Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog, who was given the portfolio of Finance Minister in chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's cabinet.

If speculations to be believed then former Congress minister Rajib Lochan Pegu is also set to don the saffron robes as he has resigned from the Majuli district president post following Majuli MLA Sarbananda Sonowal's induction into the Modi's union cabinet.

Another BJP-bound name from Congress that doing the round was Karimganj North MLA Kamlakhya Dey Purakayastha who has been made working president of APCC recently.
