Kokrajhar, September 1, 2019:

Social Welfare Minister of Assam, Pramila Rani Brahma has appealed to all the ‘illegal migrants’ to leave Assam. She has made this request to the 'foreigners' on behalf of all the indigenous Assamese people.

While speaking to the press after the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft, she said, “The illegal people should leave. It's a request from all the Assamese people.” She further added that there should not be any illegal migrant in the NRC.

Welcoming the publication of the final NRC, Brahma called the NRC a very important document of Assam. However, she said that it would be ‘really unfortunate’ if the draft was not a correct one.

"There can surely be mistakes due to human errors, however, the government has kept the scope of correction.” She also requested the excluded people to have patience and reapply for their inclusion in the NRC during the 120 days provided to file appeals in the Foreigners’ Tribunals.

After publication of the NRC, Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator, NRC said, “A total of 3,11,21,004 persons have been found eligible for inclusion in final draft, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims.

“Those not satisfied with outcome can file appeals before the Foreigners Tribunals”, he added.
