Guwahati, December 18, 2019:

Amid suspension of internet services in the State, the All Assam Cab Operators Union has threatened to launch an aggressive movement against the government if mobile internet services are not resumed.

The business of the drivers, as well as app-based food services like Swiggy and Zomato has been badly hit by the shutdown of internet services in the State, which has entered its 7th day.

According to reports, as many as 12,000 youths in Assam earn their livelihood through app-based services which depend on the internet.

Fearing if the mobile internet services are not resumed as soon as possible they will become defaulters of bank car loans, many of these youths took to the streets in protest. As they have to pay upto Rs 10,000 a month as EMIs, this has become a question of their survival.

Meanwhile, although the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday instructed the Assam government to resume mobile internet services at the earliest, the government has sought a review on this order citing reasons of 'law and order'.

Life in Guwahati city, meanwhile, has started crawling back towards normalcy in the wake of the violent agitation against the C(A)A. The protests have now taken a non-violent turn and the pressure against Delhi will now be exerted by the Supreme Court, where as many as 15 petitions have been filed by the concerned citizens of Assam.
