The Assam Olympic Association has organized a special awareness programme on COVID-19 hygiene (covering topics like usage of masks and distribution etc.) among the morning walkers and joggers at Dighlipukhripar Latasil Point in Guwahati today.

Inaugurating the programme, Shri Gupta said hygiene, such as hand washing, use of mask, and social distancing, are the only preventive measures which are to be practised without fail till a vaccine is available. Apprising the latest government rules regarding enforcement of Covid-19 protocol, the senior top police officer said the City Police has realized penalties to the tune of Rs 14 lakh from people without face masks in public places in Guwahati over the past two months.

The AOA team also distributed masks and spread awareness messages among traders and buyers at Uzanbazar fish wholesale market as well. Chairman of AOA Media Committee Sri Rajib Prakash Baruah and veteran journalist and Assam Olympic Association Core Committee member Sri Pranay Bordoloi, who took the initiative in organising the programme on behalf of AOA General Secretary Sri Lakhya Konwar, expressed concern over the breach of Covid-19 protocol at the Uzanbazar fish wholesale market. "I was quite shocked to see that there was no social distancing, hand hygiene maintenance or mask use among the traders of the market. We distributed masks among them and advised them about social distancing and hand hygiene," Sri Baruah said.

"There has been a spike in the number of pandemic cases in the city over the past few weeks. We in the Assam Olympic Association have been trying our best to educate the people, apart from helping them at times of need, about the pandemic ever since its outbreak in our state. We will continue with our efforts under the dynamic leadership of our President Sri Sarbananda Sonowal and General Secretary Sri Lakhya Konwar for the well being of the society. Our member units are also doing so in different parts of the state," Sri Bordoloi said.

Assam Olympic Association's Core Committee members Sri Bishnuram Nunisa and Sri Anup Choudhury, AOA Assistant Secretary Sri Bhabajyoti Goswami, AOA Executive Members Sri Upen Chakraborty, Sri Hiren Gogoi, Sri Alok Triparthi, AOA CEO Sri Gautam Choudhury, and other AOA members, attended and took an active part in the distribution of masks and educating the people. Members of the Print and Electronic Media and Photo Journalists were also present during the programme.
