Moran, December 23, 2019:

Members of the Tai-Ahom Yuba Parishad on Monday paid tribute to the five martyrs of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act uprising in Assam.

The Tai-Ahom body's members lit earthen lamps in front of the portraits of the martyrs: namely, Dipanjal Das, Sam Stafford, Dwijendra Panging, Iswar Nayak and Abdul Alim.' Several prominent journalists were also present at the occasion and paid their last tribute to the departed souls.

Lakhimpur district body of Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) paid deep homage to the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice during the agitation programmes initiated against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019.

On this occasion, the organization lit earthen lamps at the Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town in front of the portraits of martyrs

Earlier, the Assam Association of the Deaf also paid rich tribute to the victims killed in police firing amidst the protest against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) on Friday at Guwahati Press Club, and said that the deaf will never accept the CAA.

It may be mentioned here that the people of Assam have been continually protesting against the contentious Bill-turned-Act, as the region shares porous borders with Bangladesh. It has already been reported that around 40% of people in Assam are Bengali speakers, and it is believed that the latest amendment to the Citizenship Act will open the borders even further to an “invasion”.
