Assam Panchayat Elections to be held by January 15

Guwahati, October 11, 2018:

The Gauhati High Court has issued an order to conduct the panchayat elections in Assam on or before January 15.

Speaking on the issue, HN Bora, state election commissioner said that the election commission does not have any problems or issues in holding the elections by the January 15 as the time is more than enough. "We only need 45 to 50 days to complete the election process and as the HC has asked to complete the process by January 15, we have over 3 months", he added.

He added that as per the place the election commission will hold the elections in three stages. The government has already released the funds for conducting the election and the deputy commissioners have also been alloted the funds.

It may be mentioned that the tenure of all the panchayat members have already ended and now the operations of the panchayats are being carried by the ADCs, BDO and other officers.

The election process is expected to start by December.

It may also be mentioned that all the political parties have already started their preparations for the elections.
