Guwahati, December 16, 2018:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the people of Assam for voting in favour of BJP candidates in the recently-held panchayat polls in the state. The victory of the BJP, which came first in the polls, is a morale-booster for the party ahead of Lok Sabha elections next year.

Altogether 78,571 candidates had contested the elections, with 734 being elected unopposed. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his thankfulness to the voters for taking part in the electoral process and voting for “development and good governance”.
