Assam Police Denies Presence of Al-Qaeda Jihadis in State

Guwahati, October 8, 2019:

Is Assam the new headquarter of the jihadi group Al-Qaeda? A Pakistani intellectual certainly seems to think so. This startling claim was made during a Pakistani talk show, during which one of the hosts claimed that the the headquarter of the dreaded organization is now in Assam.

The Pakistani intellectual further said that the jihadis in Assam number 30,000-35,000. "The Rohingyas are now joining Al-Qaeda en masse. What if these people head to Kashmir? Kashmir will become the epicentre of terror", he further added.

Reacting to this, Inspector General of Police (SB) Hiren Nath said that this a false and fabricated news. "We don't have any such information. Its a false news. There were reports about the presence of jihadis in West Bengal, but this is not verified", Nath said.

It is pertinent to mention here Al-Qaeda is a militant Sunni Islamist multi-national organization founded in Peshawar Pakistan, 1988 by Osama bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam, and several other Arab volunteers during the Soviet–Afghan War. Al-Qaeda operates as a network of Islamic extremists and Salafist jihadists. The group is also credited with having orchestrated the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States of America.
