Assam Police DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta tests positive for COVID-19. So far, 2259 Police personnel have tested positive till date. 1734 have recovered. 6 have lost their lives.

Assam currently has 58837 total cases, out of which 40591 have recovered and 18098 are active cases with 145 deaths. The positivity rate is 4.585 and 1123 COVID cases have been detected out of 24492 tests in last 24 hrs.

Earlier, two trends of COVID cases in Guwahati in between 16th July to 8th August in Assam. Positivity rate has come down from 18% to 4.5%. The number of positive cases per day is also slowing down.

Taking to Twitter, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted. “Need to maintain this trend for a few more weeks”.

Earlier, Pranab Mukherjee former President of India and earlier senior Congress Politician has been tested with COVID-19.

"On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19", said Pranab Mukherjee.
